A day in the life of a CCTV operator at First County Monitoring (FCM)

Ever wondered what it is like to be a CCTV operator? This blog reveals the real insider to what it is like to be a CCTV operator at FCM. We asked our operators’ various questions, which they answered in their own words. Let’s find out what they said!

What is it like to work as a CCTV Operator at FCM?

“I really enjoy working at FCM. All my work colleagues are great, and we support and help each other when it gets busy. Recently, the ARC has been renovated, making it very modern and stylish. Our desks are height adjustable, so it means I can stand and work to give my legs a stretch during my shift.”

How do you cope when it is busy?

“You must take things one at a time. If you start to panic or rush tasks, you’re more likely to make mistakes, so it’s better to take it steady. Our jobs are very important, and we mustn’t get stressed, or we might miss things. You learn to adjust with time and experience!”

What is the most satisfying part of the job?

“You receive enormous satisfaction when you can help someone in need or stop a crime. During one particular incident, I assisted a woman who had collapsed. There was no one around to help her since she was in a secluded area. Immediately, I contacted the emergency services, who arrived to help her.”

What part of the job do you enjoy the most?

“The people I work with are amazing. There is a great sense of teamwork among us, and we support one another when a serious incident is ongoing.”

What part of the job do you enjoy the least?

“Sometimes, I don’t think customers fully understand what we do. It can be frustrating and difficult at times. However, we ensure that we explain everything in detail to them, so there are no misunderstandings.”
